Any hardwood flooring can be stained to your request and can bring otherwise dull looking floor back to life. When one of our qualified team comes to your premises we can apply several different sample colours to your floor for you to choose. There are many different stain shades available. Although colour charts are helpful, but can not describe the exact colour that you will get – what looks right printed on paper will always look different on its intended surface. Also, different types of hardwood floors can look different with the same stain, so consider the species. Stain will also look a little different on refinished flooring than on newly installed wood, but proper sanding will help it accept the stain better. Try several different stain colours on a sample of the same kind of wood as your flooring to get a good idea of the final result.
The best option to chose a colour is on the actual floor. When we sand down your floor to bare wood, before giving it its final fine sanding. Our colleague can stain a several spots with the chosen before that stains, so you will be able to see how the stain is going to look like on your floor. Have in mind that applying the finish Oil or Lacquer will also change the colour slightly giving it a bit more sheen (or not if you chose a Matt finish)
Hardwood flooring can come in a variety of different shades and colours. The most popular stain options include:
- Natural looks almost like bare wood.
- Light is a very popular shade of stain because it darkens the grain and adds a subtle tone to the wood. It often has a slight tan hue to it.
- Medium is another popular choice. It’s darker than the light, so both the grain and the wood will have an obviously darker pigment, commonly a medium-brown hue.
- Dark is usually a very dark brown and has a very rich feel.
A custom colour refers to any colour besides tan/brown/sand. Many homeowners have chosen a bright red, deep green or even white stain with striking results. Often it is best to choose a vibrant colour for smaller areas or rooms as too much of a non-neutral colour can prove to be overwhelming.
